I look at old family pictures of relatives and wonder who they were, what they did, which bit of them, if anything, I inherited.
Some of them I know about either through meeting them myself, or through stories passed down through the years, but I always return to their photograph, because by seeing them helps bring the past back to life.
One of the first things we do when someone passes away is reach for photographs of them, but in todays society of endless smart phone selfies and instant snaps, how many photographs will survive for future generations to cherish in the way our ancestors have survived through their family portraits?
For me the biggest thrill is finding pictures of the individuals and their families as they help tell that story, and because my own family's historical pictures are so precious to me, I feel even stronger that it's so important to continue documenting how our family changes through the years by having special portraits done that allow us to have timeless reminders.
As you can tell, I am passionate about family and history. By unearthing details about individuals who have been documented through the years, some never spoken about in family stories, who helped, even in the smallest of ways to shape or make history, I find quite rewarding as there's always something to uncover, another bit of the jigsaw of life to find.
Unearthing the past, particularly through photographs, and documenting our (and your) families now is even more important to me (and you) for future generations. I haven't been blessed with children, so in future years when I'm gone there will be no direct descendants looking, or knowing me, so having photographs of me, my life and my family will allow me to exist in some form and provide future generations to get a sense of who I was and if there is any family resemblance.
Your family is the most important thing in the world, and I know you want portraits you can treasure and hold close to your heart for the rest of your life.
Now is the time to create something special, something that is timeless, something that allows you to carry on the tradition of adding portraits to your family’s collection for generations to come.
